Kickathon at Villari's Self Defense Centers of Chalfont to Support AWP 04/26/08 Villari's Self Defense Centers of Chalfont (Villari’s) will host a Kickathon on Saturday, April 26. Villari's students of all ages (4-year olds through adults) will ask family members, friends and businesses to pledge money if the student performs the 500 kicks required to complete the kickathon. Also, at the end of the Kickathon, Master Pfister, Fifth Degree Black Belt in Shaolin Kempo Karate and the chief instructor at the school, will perform a breaking demonstration. Last year, he broke 50 concrete patio blocks. All profits from the Kickathon benefit A Woman's Place.

A Woman's Place will honor our volunteers during a special appreciation event at 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, as part of the 2008 National Volunteer Week. The MOMS Club of Southeastern Lower Bucks County is partnering with Bucks County's legendary Shady Brook Farm to help support AWP.On Saturday, May 3, shop at Shady Brook Farm's famous market and garden center and 20 percent of your purchases will benefit AWP!

Save Your Spot in the Upcoming CORE Training! 05/17/08
All volunteers must complete AWP's six-hour CORE training. This introductory training focuses on AWP's projects and programs and domestic violence issues, with a special focus on Bucks County and preparing participants to successfully communicate about AWP and domestic violence in their lives and in the community. Once completed, CORE Volunteers fill many roles at AWP, including administrative assistance, working on special events, and participating in community outreach and education.

AWP Receives $5000 Verizon Foundation Grant
AWP received a $5,000 grant from the Verizon Foundation to increase the organization’s technology capabilities, which in turn enhances AWP’s abilities to deliver direct services to victims of domestic abuse and violence and their children and the community. Daniel J. Reavy, Director-External Affairs, Verizon Pennsylvania presented the grant award to AWP Director of Services Mary Sonke in December.
AWP Holiday Party for Moms & Kids Santa Claus took time for everyone on his list during the annual A Woman’s Place (AWP) Holiday Party for Moms & Kids, hosted by Doylestown United Methodist Church (DUMC) on Tuesday, Dec. 11, 2007. In between the food and fun, partygoers shopped for free in the Holiday Shop for Moms & Kids. Stocked with generous donations from the community, the Holiday Shop gave AWP’s families an opportunity to celebrate the season by selecting and giving gifts to one another, helping make their holiday season a little brighter as they work to rebuild their lives. Every family went home with presents, pictures, groceries, and smiles. AWP partners with individuals and organizations from the community to provide support during the holiday season to more than 200 victims of domestic abuse and violence and their children.
Local Brownie Troop Donation to AWP Brownies from local Troop 21664, pictured with AWP Executive Director Donna J. Byrne, dropped off some much-needed donations they had collected for AWP’s shelter in October 2007.

Full Cirlce Celebrates 15th Anniversary Shopping, food, fun, and cake (of course!) were in fashion at Full Circle’s 15th anniversary celebration on Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, in New Britain. Much more than a thrift store, Full Circle has filled a unique roll for 15 years in the work to end domestic abuse and violence in Bucks County. All proceeds from the store benefit AWP and clients shop for free at the store.
Motorola Day of Service Volunteers from Motorola gave AWP’s offices some much-needed new coats of paint during their volunteer service day in October 2007.
The Closet Works Inc. Day of Service Steven Hollenberg and Brian Groo from The Closet Works Inc. rolled up their sleeves and helped redo a room in AWP’s shelter during a volunteer service day in November 2007.
Women Build!
Volunteers from Women Build, a project of Bucks County Habitat for Humanity, got a little festive when they struck a pose for the camera after completing some much-needed “handywoman” work around AWP. The group will work on ongoing projects at AWP throughout the upcoming months.
