A Woman’s Place (AWP) asks that all volunteers attend training, provided free of charge, prior to working on our behalf. AWP offers two levels of volunteer training.

C.O.R.E. Training (6 hours) – Community Outreach, Response, and Education

This introductory training focuses on AWP projects, programs, and domestic violence issues with a special focus on Bucks County. With an emphasis on public speaking, participants are prepared to successfully communicate about AWP services and the effects of domestic violence in the community. Once participants complete C.O.R.E. Training, some of the possible volunteer opportunities are:

  • Administrative Assistant – help AWP’s administrative office to run more smoothly by greeting visitors, answering phones, conducting internet research, preparing mailings, and organizing files
  • Communiciatons Assistant - help with blogging, social media, newsletter, press releases, brochures, etc.
  • Full Circle Thrift Store Assistant – become part of our dedicated team of thrift store volunteers by accepting and sorting incoming donations, arranging displays on the floor, and/or working the cash register
  • Fundraising Assistant – help with advertising campaigns, event-planning, donor appreciation, and business outreach

Direct Service Training (45 hours)

Volunteers interested in pursuing further training are eligible for our Direct Service Training, which emphasizes in-depth understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence as well as skill building is supporting victims of domestic violence. Successful completion of Direct Service Training prepares volunteers to work directly with clients of AWP. Direct Service-Trained Volunteers will be eligible to provide the following services:

  • Children’s Advocate
  • First Response Advocate
  • Hotline Counselor
  • Legal Advocate
  • Peer Counselor
  • Shelter Advocate
  • Support Group Facilitator
  • Teen Chat Line Operator

Teen Volunteer Application

AWP Teen Volunteer Program is open to all Bucks County teens, 7th through 12th grade.  In order to volunteer, teens must attend AWP’s 6-hr Teen Volunteer Training, which discusses the issue of teen dating violence as well as the impact of domestic violence on children and families. Teens who have completed this training are eligible to volunteer in the following ways:

  • Administrative Assistant – help AWP’s administrative office to run more smoothly by greeting visitors, answering phones, conducting internet research, preparing mailings, and organizing files
  • Children’s Mentor – help support the kids living in shelter by reading with them, providing homework help, doing crafts, or organizing other recreational activities.
  • Full Circle Thrift Store Assistant – become part of our dedicated team of thrift store volunteers by accepting and sorting incoming donations, arranging displays on the floor, and/or working the cash register

Young Adult Advisory Board (YAAB) – open to young adults ages 13-24, this committee is organized to raise awareness about dating violence in Bucks County and promote the social change necessary to eradicate this issue.
